Well it's good news for website owners because someone has finally made it easy to backup your website files and databases without needing to log into your cPanel control panel every single time.

Gone are the days when you forget to backup or run out of time to backup your precious data.

Think about this for a moment...

What happens when your web host has a failure and your account get's damaged or worse case scenario, the web host loses everything.?

Do you rely on your web host to take backups for you? Check the fine print of most web hosts terms of service and they will state that they are not responsible for your data, even if it's their fault. Great isn't it.

So what's the solution. Simple. Backup your data regularly.

Let me tell you how to do it on cPanel web servers, it's quite labour intensive.

a) Go to your http://yourwebsite.com:2082 and enter in your login credentials.
b) Go to the Backup icon (will look different depending on your cPanel theme)
c) Click on the link to download the home directory backup (this will take all your files)
d) Click on the links to download your databases
e) Click on the links to download your email filters or email aliases

Now do that once a week or month for your home directory (files) and everyday for your databases like Wordpress, Forums, Shopping Carts, Email Lists.

No thanks I have better things to do with my time.

After watching the video I was wondering if Obama?s NYC
mosque will have a "Stoning Grounds" near the front entry.
Liberals, be careful for what you wish for, and I would caution
anyone to think carefully before watching this video. The young
girl in this video was sentenced to death by an ISLAMIC Court
because she did not want to marry an old man the family arranged
for her!

This was NOT Al Qaeda or the Taliban, but MUSLIMS
following SHARIAH LAW! These are the same people who want to
build a mosque across from Ground Zero, where they killed 3,000
on 9/11. And Obama is agreeing to this? Does he have any comment
regarding the strong suggestion that the $110 Million for such a
project is coming from Saudi Arabia? Do we want this type of
barbaric religion in OUR country?! Tell me again why we can't
call them MUSLIM or ISLAMIC Terrorists.......How about MUSLIM
animals? I can't imagine any crime for which this punishment
would be acceptable under any circumstances any where in
America!!! Where's all the Left Wing Liberal Women's Groups
now.....God Help Us (The Real God, that is). Track forward in
time to when they will be asking to utilize Shariah Law here as
they are doing in several European countries, or whether it was
appropriate for a recent newly elected congressman from the upper
midwest of the US to be sworn in utilizing a Quaran vs a Bible!

I have a real problem with the naysayers who express their view
that our country, and its constitution, provides for freedom of
religion, and therefore such activity as the use of Shariah Law
and building mosques wherever, is protected. Any form of
governance that utilizes Shariah Law to govern can not, by any
stretch of the imagination, be accepted in our country as a
religion. Politicians who support such a position are, at best,
demagogues and, at worst, simply damn liars and fools. Anyone who
can watch this video and support the proposition that this is
their Muslim religion at work is too sick to be considered
rational.

When are the Democrats and Liberals who struggle so mightily to
be "PC" going to get it???? The first lesson in war is to
identify the enemy!!!

I have an idea, let us let one airline company radically and racially profile, and lets see how many customers are ok with this. Lets also see how much there sales would increase. I know that I would fly with them. Most people in the world do not care what it takes to be safe, and the ones that complain; they need to be looked at a little closer. I agree so much to what she said, "it's suspect, not a racial profile." Ann you are an amazing woman, God love you.

The Power of Lighttpd

As many of you know, I run Ruby Ring Technologies and we do our best to provide top notch services and servers to our clients. Well one of our clients is our own Free Image Hosting site. As an image hosting provider you have to constantly monitor for child porn or other illegal images. Well this morning during my normal checks and stats run, I noticed that the VPS had a large amount of traffic running from, large being about 280Mbits, with over 5000 connections to port 80, and using no ram or cpu power.

So far I am pretty impressed with the performance of this VPS, what do you guys think?
I am going to try and update this post if traffic increases today.

My Building Permit

My Building Permit:

I just applied for a building permit for a new house.
It was going to be 100 ft tall and 400 ft wide with 9 turrets at various heights
and windows all over the place and a loud outside entertainment sound system.
It would have parking for 200 cars and I was going to paint it snot green with tatty pink trim.

The City Council told me to go to hell.

Switching to Lighttpd for image hosting

As some of you know, running a image hosting site can be a bit of a headache in the field of performance/cost ratio. As 99% of the time we are just giving away our services and making pennies a day keeping the cost down but performance up is the challenge. I currently run FreeImageHostingOn.us a free image hosting site. The problem is the traffic these sites can generate.

For example, today I just moved to a new box, so lets look at this months stats.

Now lets look at this weeks bandwidth.

Now some stats. Please keep in mind that on the busy days I have to suspend the site to stop it from overloading the server.

So today as I don't want to close shop, but need to save some money I made some changes.
First I got another VPS just for this project. The VPS came from Ruby Ring Technologies I am using there VPS 1024 with GigE upgrade. However instead of CentOS with cPanel like before, I installed the LXAdmin option. At the time of this writing, which is now powering the image site, I am using all of 44MBs of ram. What makes this such a great option is the very low memory usage and the Lighttpd WebServer that it installs by default.
Out of the box the VPS was screaming, however I new I could get some better performance out of it. By adding the following six lines to the lighttpd.conf file my memory usage almost dropped by 25% and my performance darn near doubled.

server.max-keep-alive-requests = 4
server.max-keep-alive-idle = 4
server.event-handler = “linux-sysepoll”
server.network-backend = “linux-sendfile”
server.max-fds = 8192
server.stat-cache-engine = “simple”

That was it, pretty darn simple.

Now this is just today's performance, but I am hoping over the next few weeks to update this post with some more graphs and updates to see if it can deal with the load.

******** Update - July 22 ********

well it has been about 24 hours on the new VPS let's see some stats.

First off Traffic:

Not bad seems we peaked out at 40Mbit, not bad at all.

Memory Usage:

Ok so were looking at 130 MB's of RAM Used, could be a little better but not complaining as I am pushing out 40Mbits of traffic.

CPU Usage:

Yeah so that would be what 40Mhz, whoop dee doo.
