Fired and Learned Lessons

So last week I was fired from Lunarpages. I am not upset but I have to laugh at some of the things I have learned while I was working there.

These are some of the things I learned about a working for a big hosting company.

  • The laws of numbers apply, gain 1000, loss 100.
  • Screw the little guy, if your site is a blog and you don’t have wpcache you will be suspended for resource usage.
  • When building VPS servers, install 8GB’s of RAM but place 25 – 30 512MB VE’s on them.
  • Make sure your VE’s are not locked down right so customers can run Windows Updates, then charge them to fix it when the VE’s break.
  • Use outdated OS versions for your Shared and Dedicated Linux Servers. CentOS 4.x is a great software but a few days outdated.
  • You can delay reviews 60 days because of a hospital child birth trip.
  • You are not allowed to have Sunday off to go to church, but you MUST respect the fact that a boss is having a sex change, and she/he/it has rights.
  • You can reboot VPS Nodes during the day without notice, but blame it on “emergency maintenance”.
  • Make sure your prices are not on par with the rest of the net, but say the prices reflect quality service, but charge for support.
  • If an dedicated server customer authorizes unlimited charges because they need there site up, its ok to shut down the network switch because they went over there bandwidth. Also don’t get back to them for at least 24 hours.
  • Make sure your dedicated servers cost less then $300 from parts at Fry’s, so you can get the max ROI.
  • Purchase 4 $15,000 EACH backup storage arrays, but don’t replace the main Firewall, cause it’s really not needed.
  • Charge a customer if they need a backup restored.
  • And a few more things I am sure of…

It was an interesting job, I meet a few good people, meet a few nut jobs, and thought I meet a good man, but was tossed under the bus.

All in all it was a fun trip, but I am heading back to Ruby Ring Technologies and am going to make that company into a new level that has not been seen before.

Had you ever asked for Sundays off, we’d have taken that into consideration. We do respect the right for people to religion and whether you think I’m a nut job or not (I imagine you do), I do respect your right to have Sunday off had you ever asked for having that day to me. You simply did not. I’m sorry you feel the way you do and I do wish you luck in your venture for real. You have a great talent for dealing with customers on days you don’t let your emotions color those dealings.

    Miraenda,

While your name does not ring a bell, I am sure you mean well. All is good, I still hold no negative feelings towards Lunarpages or any of the staff. I had a good time there, and it is time to move along. I will never post or use real names as I always have and always will respect the privacy of others.

As far as Sundays, with respect on my original application I asked for these days off, during “Training” I asked once completed to have that day off. Anyways it is here nor there.

My only regret or moment of sadness was with a Windows Admin, who I wish had looked at my face and not hid behind lies. The second I was questioned about any actions or concerns I felt I maned up to all of them, admitting what was done and what was not done.

That is my only negative feelings towards Lunarpages or its staff.

    Thank you,
    Anthony
