Windows Vista – Again
So it has been a few weeks now since I got my laptop. Well after a few days of pretty much no productive working getting done, I formatted the laptop. I install Linux Mint which is a Ubuntu KDE distro. Now I really like this distro, and used it for a few weeks, however it just did not like this laptop. After weeks of searching and tweaking, and tweaking others were experiencing the same troubles. So getting very upset at the crashes, sound problems, wifi problems I said screw this I am going back to Windows. So I grabbed my XP Pro disk and started the install, wrong…… What a mess, long and short I tried for hours to get XP Pro, then Server 2003 on this laptop. What a process, the HD was totally messed up that was only fixable by a total HD wipe. Which if you know about this you know that it requires a special program that low levels the HD to a clean totally empty of data, partitions, boot records, everything. So I get XP to kind of load right, and for about 5 hours I search and search and search the internet for drives and hardware work around to make this dang laptop work. Needless to say this resulted in a big fat ZERO. They were not kidding when they said Made for Vista, and Vista Hardware. This upsets me to no end, to the point that I am thinking about taking this thing back. I mean Vista is a pile of crap. It can’t zip files, lets forget about any sort of speeds with USB, I mean this laptop has USB 2.0 in it, which works very well and fast in linux; however this is Vista why would we want speed, or God forbid the and I quote from the pretty sticker on the laptop.
Multi-Tasking Power!
Dual Core Mobile Performace
Cinematic Quality Graphics and Lifelike Games
Advanced Features to Power your Entertainment
Like oh say copying files from a USB HD to the local HD, and now wait here, surfing the net. I know, I am so stupid what was I thinking?? Now lets try and install something, dear Lord no, not that… What was I thinking, installing software…. So just accessing the DVD drive, yes White Screen, Bill was correct there are no more Blue Screens of Death, there white. Now to one positive note, Vista seems so far to be able to recover from the White Screen after a few minutes and keep going. However WTC, all I want to do is install software?
So I am back to Vista, and I hate it, what again a pile of crap. Oh wait I mean What a Powerful Multi-Tasking Perfomance packed Software. Yeah right.. I might try tonight to maybe do some work on this machine but I am not holding my breath.
Sigh,
Anthony
